Frequently Asked Questions
Who can participate in Trail Together hikes?
Our hikes accommodate all experience levels, with a special focus on beginners and individuals new to the Greater Puget Sound region seeking community and support in outdoor activities.
What qualifications do your guides possess?
All Trail Together guides are certified in wilderness first aid and CPR, ensuring a safe and well-managed experience for all participants.
Is prior hiking experience required?
No. We offer a wide range of trails designed for everyone. To help you find the right fit, each of our outings is clearly labeled as Easy, Moderate, or Hard. Easy hikes are perfect for those new to the trail or looking for a social stroll. Moderate and Hard hikes may involve more elevation or technical terrain. We recommend checking the specific hike description for details on length and incline so you can choose the adventure that best matches your comfort level.
How do I join Trail Together hikes?
You can join by registering on our website, giving you access to scheduled hikes, membership benefits, and a community of outdoor enthusiasts.
What should I wear/bring?
We take the guesswork out of gear. Once you register for a specific hike, you’ll receive a detailed prep email tailored to that location, the current weather forecast, and the terrain. This includes a specific “what to wear” guide and a checklist of necessary supplies. As a general rule of thumb we recommend comfortable shoes with good traction, a small backpack, a snack and water.
What is the typical group size?
We believe the best trail experiences happen in small batches. To ensure everyone’s safety and foster a true sense of community, our groups typically average from 6 to 8 hikers. To stay reliable for our members, we don’t require a minimum number of participants to head out; even if only one or two people sign up, the hike is still on!
Where do we meet?
Because every adventure is unique, meeting locations vary depending on the trail. Once you register, you’ll receive a detailed prep email. This includes the exact meeting time and a direct GPS link to the trailhead or designated meeting spot, so you can navigate straight to us without any guesswork.
Do you offer transportation?
At this time, hikers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the trailhead. That said, building community and reducing our environmental impact are both important to us. We’re actively exploring future transportation solutions—including a platform to help members coordinate carpools with one another.
In the meantime, we encourage you to connect with fellow hikers and stay tuned for updates. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to hear about new transportation options as they develop!
Is the hike suitable for children?
While we love seeing the next generation on the trail, many of our hikes are better suited to adults. Children are welcome to join us on our Easy (and some Moderate) outings, provided they are accompanied by an adult who remains solely responsible for them throughout the hike. Because every child’s ability is different, we recommend reviewing the hike description for distance and terrain details. If you’re looking for a family-friendly recommendation, feel free to reach out!
Can I bring my dog?
We love our four-legged friends, but to ensure the comfort and safety of all our members, we do not allow dogs on our hikes at this time. We are exploring the possibility of adding “Pet-Friendly” specific hikes in the future, follow us on Facebook or Instagram to stay tuned for updates!
What if the weather is bad?
We hike in various conditions, and a little rain is often part of the adventure! However, your safety is our top priority. If the forecast calls for dangerous conditions—such as lightning, high winds, or extreme temperatures—we will make a call to reschedule or cancel the hike. Members will be notified via email at least 2-4 hours before the meeting time. If we have to cancel, you will receive a full credit toward a future hike.
Can I cancel my reservation?
We understand that plans change! Because we keep our group sizes small to ensure a high-quality experience, we ask that you cancel at least 72 hours before the hike to receive a full credit toward a future outing. Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice are non-refundable, as it’s often difficult to fill your spot on short notice. To cancel, simply follow the link in your confirmation email or reach out to us directly.
Do you offer custom or private hikes?
Yes! Whether it’s for a corporate team-building event, a birthday celebration, or a private group of friends, we are happy to coordinate custom outings. We’ll work with you to choose the perfect trail and pace for your group. Pricing for custom hikes is tailored to the specific details of your event. To get started, please fill out our “Contact Us” form, and we’ll reach out to discuss your vision and provide a custom quote.
