Lake 22 (Lake Twenty-Two) — A classic Cascade lake with big payoff
If you’re looking for a “wow” destination that feels far more alpine than the drive suggests, Lake 22 delivers. The trail climbs steadily through a lush, damp forest with frequent water sounds, then opens into a dramatic mountain basin where the lake sits beneath steep rocky walls—an unforgettable finish that feels earned.
Lake 22 is a Moderate hike with sustained climb and some uneven, rocky footing. This is an out and back hike that covers ~5.4 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of ~1350 feet.
It’s great for beginners who are comfortable with a continuous climb (and taking breaks as needed). It’s also a rewarding half-day outing for more experienced hikers who want a scenic adventure.
